Day 5
Leaders note: - Back to the motorway slog.....ho hum, but this was always the plan...at least the weather is dry. We lost someone again, in the maze of motorway junctions and slip roads between Arnhem and Utrecht, and end up having to stop on the hard shoulder in heavy traffic, and then again at services some miles later, before we are all together again. Thankfully this is the last time we separate, and despite the boring journey, peoples spirits seem to be picking up...sun makes such a difference!. Before we know it, we are at the Chunnel, and manage an earlier train. We are all due to scatter the other side of the tunnel and head for home (I have Kontiki for company all the way), and I have to admit, despite the weather, the spray, the farm tracks, the leopard skin duvets and a couple of mishaps, I’ve had a really good time!. You couldn’t meet a nicer bunch of people to ride with, I have laughed...a lot....and in hindsight I have truly enjoyed the experience for all its highs and lows.....what would happen I wonder if I just keep riding ...I want to press reset and do it all again!
“Not looking forward to the journey back to the Chunnel as it looks damp again today and the whole journey is going to be all autobahns. We managed to lose Steve (Tref) and pulled over to allow him to catch up. Dave asked me to get off the bike and I found myself on the floor. I laughed so much that I could not get up and two people helped me up off the floor, however, when I looked at where I had lain I had caused an imprint of my head in a mole hill. Arrived at the Chunnel, managed to get there in time to get an earlier train. Made our way through to passport control and had to remove our helmets, what a pain. Finally got on the train and started to count the bikes and commented that one was missing, Syd thought I was joking, but Mike was in fact missing. None of us could understand how it had happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday and would gladly do it all again. Thanks to you all for making this a most enjoyable experience”.

“Next day we had a much shorter ride down through Belgium and into France. We made good head way with an overcast but dry day. Craig left us on the border to head back to Germany where he resides. The remainder group arrived 1 hour early at the tunnel and was back in UK just after 3pm. Although the weather at times was a bit against us we did get the best when in the Harz Mountains which was great. The companionship and humour of the group was marvellous. We would all like to thank Paul for organizing the ride and being an excellent leader. Tref for being TEC, and keeping us altogether. Finally Syd for organizing the first class accommodation. Roll on the next tour”.
